Available as either a 2-day Field Class, based in your area, or an online webinar. This Class will outline the most important results of the 2022 midterm elections, the composition of the 118th Congress, and the significance of the President’s Budget Request for the fiscal year of 2023.
The roles of the most significant congressional leaders of both parties are explained.
The membership and function of the important Authorization- and Appropriations-committees with authority over BLM matters is detailed.
An analysis of the most up-to-date budgetary figures is provided along with their impact on the BLM.
Edited and annotated clips of recently held confirmation and legislative-hearings of personnel relevant to the BLM are discussed.
For over 20 years, Patricia D. Woods, Ph.D., President of Woods Institute (WI) has delivered the Political Realities module for the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Leadership Academy that takes place in Washington, DC on Capitol Hill. Most of the current BLM senior leaders have participated in this four day class. WI has participated in on site meetings at BLM National Landscape Conservation System and BLM budget meetings for the bureau’s top managers and executives as a guest speaker on Congress operations and the BLM. WI’s former on-site training continues to be delivered virtually since the pandemic with two hour webinars for BLM state leadership teams in Alaska, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and the Eastern States on the Biden Administration, the 117th Congress, and the BLM. Congressional staff who work for Senator Lisa Murkowski on the Senate Subcommittee on Interior, Environment and Related Agencies, Emy Losofski and Lucas Agnew, were guest speakers for the webinar for the BLM Alaska Leadership team last May. WI plans to continue to deliver theses classes on Capitol Hill in person when the time is safe and or/virtually via webinar or multiday classes if this is the client’s choice.
