Our History Working with the USDA Forest Service
When Patricia D. Woods, Ph.D., President of Woods Institute (WI) opened her business in 1984, the Forest Service was the first client. She began by conducting two day classes for Forest Service field staff around the country. The sessions went well and were held in all of the regions of the Forest Service over the years. So well in fact that the Forest Service adopted the slogan Caring for the Land and Serving People when Dr. Woods suggested it while working with the agency on the history program in 1986.
Woods Institute delivered over two dozen one week Capitol Hill Management Policy seminars for Forest Service senior leaders, many of whom became chiefs, regional foresters, station directors and forest supervisors.
Woods Institute also designed and developed a course on the Forest Service’s Heritage, Values and Traditions that were included in the orientation programs for new agency employees. WI’s former on site training continues to be delivered virtually since the pandemic with webinars and multi-day virtual classes for clients on Congress. In 2021, the Southern Research Station in Asheville, NC hosted a two hour webinar on The Biden Administration, the 117th Congress, and the Forest Service.
WI plans to continue to deliver these classes on Capitol Hill in person when the time is safe and or/virtually via webinar or multiday classes if this is the client’s choice.
